Grinders Coffee has long been synonymous with a quality brew – 60 years, in fact. Since Giancarlo Gusti first opened his single storefront on Lygon Street in 1962, Grinders has gone on to cement itself as a trusted roaster and reliable supplier of beans, grounds and world-class equipment to cafés and restaurants across the country.

Many of these establishments are right here in Victoria. From Wodonga to Mornington and the suburbs in between, these five cafés are consistently producing top-notch coffees that Gusti himself would be proud of. So the next time you’re in need of an espresso, these spots won’t let you down.

To celebrate 60 years of Grinders Coffee, they are giving away a cash prize of $10,000 to one lucky Time Out reader, plus daily consolation prizes. To enter, head here.

Where: Shop 5, 1-13 South St, Wodonga VIC 3690
When: Daily 7am-5pm

The next time you find yourself in Wodonga craving a brekky burger and a serving of that famous Grinders Coffee, there’s only one place to go: Blind Freddy’s Café. This popular all-day eatery has a bit of a revhead theme going on – think hot-rod murals, car paraphernalia and old-school auto repair signage. It’s also not unusual to see a motorbike (often vintage or limited edition) propped up out the front for people to admire. But it’s the friendly staff, hearty meals and prompt service that have cemented this café as one of the country township’s best.

Where: Shop 7/106 Henry Rd, Pakenham VIC 3810
When: Daily 8am-9pm

Located in the heart of Pakenham, Oven Craft is a warm and welcoming café that caters for the whole family. The extensive menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus snacks for morning and afternoon tea. While it’s hard to pick just one hero dish, the buttermilk pancakes topped with strawberries, banana, maple syrup and vanilla ice cream are heaven on a plate. Oh, and the gourmet pizza and pasta options are next-level good, too. Wash it all down with an iced latte (made using Grinders Coffee, of course) and we promise you won’t be disappointed.

Where: 157/159 Main St, Mornington VIC 3931
When: Daily 7.30am-4pm

Look for the striped umbrellas on Main Street in Mornington and you’ll find Biscottini – a family-owned café with a reputation for serving up some of the tastiest fare on the peninsula. If it’s sunny, snag a spot at one of the outdoor tables and enjoy a fresh cup of Joe by Grinders Coffee, or cosy up inside and feast on a big bowl of soup with a side of crusty bread. Best of all, you can even grab a takeaway meal – like lasagne, fettucini carbonara and pumpkin risotto – so you can enjoy a slice of Biscottini at home.

Where: 92/94 Elizabeth St, Melbourne VIC 3000
When: Daily 10.30am-5.30pm

Want to combine your love of craft and coffee? If that’s a yes, you need to make a beeline for Art Masterclass on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s CBD. Here you can take part in a traditional Turkish lamp-making workshop, where you’ll spend a couple of hours assembling geometric mosaic patterns and applying them to your lamp. All the materials are provided, and you’ll get to take home your special creation at the end of the session. You won’t go thirsty, either – also included is a sumptuous Turkish coffee service (made using Grinders beans, of course!).

Where: River Lvl, Southgate Precinct, 3 Southgate Ave, Southbank VIC 3006
When: Wed-Fri noon-late; Sat 11am-late; Sun 9am-late

Enjoy the very best of the Apple Isle in a distinctly Melbourne setting at Pure South Kitchen. Situated in Southbank and boasting views of the Yarra River, this relaxed, casual dining spot is all about showcasing ethically farmed and sustainably produced food from Tassie, King Island and Flinders Island. Our top picks from the menu would have to be the Scottsdale free-range pork belly with sweet potato, cavolo nero, apricot and pine nuts, followed by the Pyengana Dairy Farm crème brûleé. Pair it with a Grinders Coffee and you’ve got a meal you won’t soon forget.
