In the hectic time that is 2023, you’d be forgiven for wanting to press pause. With an estimated 85 Sydney Harbours worth of native forests lost in Australia every single year, it’s clear that nature, too, needs a time out.
That’s why WWF’s Earth Hour is asking Australians to switch off to raise the alarm on the climate crisis on Saturday, March 25. At 8.30pm local time, people and businesses all over the country and the world will switch off their lights for nature in a bid to spark climate action.
Since its inception in 2007, Earth Hour has grown to encompass more than 7,000 cities in over 190 countries – a staggering 97 per cent of the world. From primary schools and small businesses to landmarks like Melbourne’s Federation Square and the Sydney Opera House, millions of climate-conscious citizens will be taking part this year. So, will you be one of them?
As if you needed another reason to participate, WWF-Australia and Tasmanian Walking Company are giving Earth Hour participants the opportunity to win a wilderness escape for two on the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk. You could be traversing the remote landscape alongside expert guides and immersing yourself in nature. All you need to do to secure your entry is sign up to switch off at the Earth Hour website.
