While voting may not top your list of fun ways to spend your time, it’s an incredibly important part of a healthy and functioning society. It’s the opportunity to choose who represents you in government with the hope they will bring about meaningful and impactful change on the things that matter to you, like education, transport and hospitals. Oh, and it’s also compulsory – which is also crucial to a healthy and functioning society!

We admit, of course, that in the past voting might have seemed more like a chore rather than an exciting weekend activity with only specific days you can vote on and the occasional tiresome queues.

Why are we talking about this? Well, the Victorian State election is just around the corner and will be held on Saturday, November 26.

Thankfully, the voting gods (aka the Victorian Electoral Commission) have listened and answered our prayers: early voting is now open, and you don’t need a reason to be able to vote early! There is a minimum of one early voting centre in every district, and there are two in Melbourne’s CBD, so everyone has access. Early voting runs from Monday, November 14 to Friday, November 25, at 6pm.

If you still want to vote on the day, the VEC will still have a range of safe, convenient and accessible voting options for you to go and cast your vote. And to get your democracy sausage!

But if you want to beat the queues and keep your weekend free by voting early in this upcoming election, early voting centre locations and opening hours can be found on VEC’s Voting Centre Locator.
