If you want to get a feel for Bendigo's gold mining history then head to the Central Deborah Gold Mine. They're home to the deepest underground gold mine tour in Australia where you can don your miner's hard hat, grab a torch and be guided through old mining tunnels 61 metres underground.
The venue also features an interactive museum with gold panning and machinery on display. You can even get an authentic miner's 'tiddy oggie' – a half sweet, half savoury pasty – for lunch.
