Who mixed the first-ever cocktail? It's a question with a much-debated answer, but many historians attribute the cocktail's creation to a New York bartender named Jerry Thomas. In 1862, he released a book called The Bartender's Guide, and the tome is widely credited for kickstarting the popularity of mixology.
In the 150 years that followed, a lot has changed; cocktails went from being three-ingredient affairs like the Negroni, Amaretto Sour and Martini to being whimsical brews topped with smoke-filled bubbles or served in gimmicky vessels. But whether it's a simple bevvie or a complex concoction, the point remains: we all love a good cocktail. And for a limited time, the good folks over at Kingpin, an entertainment space within Crown, are hosting the Art of Mixology, an adults-only exhibition of – you guessed it – cocktails.
The exhibition runs from March 3 to 12 and features the work of six artists, who've been tasked with interpreting Kingpin's signature premium cocktails. When you enter, you'll be given your choice of a signature cocktail (or mocktail) and then you'll get to explore a space filled with scented bubbles, captivating soundscapes and projection illusions.
Sessions will run from 11am to midnight daily, and tickets are $20 per person. Purchase yours here.
