In 2014 cyber security analyst Edward Snowden blew the lid off a scandal when he revealed that the US government was spying on its own citizens' data records. The topic is as pertinent today, particularly in a climate where the Australian government reformed its own data security laws in October 2015, requiring telcos to keep data records of mobile, landline and internet activity for two years. It's scary stuff.
Morrow will interview Snowden via satellite link up and consider not only Snowden's predicament (he's taking refuge in Russia) but the extent to which the Aussie laws impinge on civil liberties and whether it's justified in the name of national security.
