At age 17, New York-based Amani Al-Khatahtbeh founded MuslimGirl – the first mainstream media network by and for Muslim women. Since then, the website has over one million readers, and she was named the first veiled Muslim woman on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
At this year's Melbourne Writers Festival, Al-Khatahtbeh will speak at a number of events and panel talks. At 'Muslim Girl', she will discuss growing up in a post-9/11 America as a Muslim woman; and in 'Living in Trump's America' she will talk about the experience of minorities living under an antagonistic leader with Min Jin Lee and Micah White. In 'Pop Culture and Feminism', she will join Brodie Lancaster and Hera Lindsay Bird to discuss representation and diversity in pop culture, and in 'Towards Inclusivity', she will meet with Renni Eddo-Lodge and Sami Shah to suggest ways to fight racism.
