There's been no shortage of big tops popping up in Birrarung Marr in recent years, and now one more is on its way. Zirk! is a new circus that mixes together the traditions of Russian circus (although thankfully there are no animal acts) with contemporary spectacle. Produced by Andrew Guild, who has been working in circus for more than five decades, it includes performers from Moscow’s Nikulin Circus, the Russian State Circus, the Moscow Bolshoi Circus and Cirque du Soleil.
There'll be a double wheel, contortionists, aerial acts, acrobatics and the terrifying-sounding "Globe of Death", and the entire thing will be overseen by ringmaster Stas Knyazkov, and Russian clown Dmitry Shindrov.
The producers are promising an intimate experience in the big top, where no seat is more than 15 rows from the stage.
