O, wonder! After a string of sell-out shows, the Melbourne Shakespeare Company returns with a larger-than-life adaptation of The Tempest. The fantastical tale of storm-conjuring Prospero will take over Central Park in Malvern, with the classic springing to life through innovative staging, a live rock accompaniment and rousing performances.
This production may walk and talk like Shakespeare, but expect an adaptation with a musical twist where you'll hear classics like ‘Holding Out for a Hero’, ‘It’s Raining Men’ and ‘Final Countdown’ performed by a cast of 13 actor-musicians. The brainchild of acclaimed Melbourne director Chelsea Matheson with musical direction from Benjamin Colley, this is a Shakespearean classic with the grit and spunk of 1980s punk rock.
Running from February 25 until March 12, 2023, in Central Park, The Tempest is recommended for all ages and attendees are encouraged to bring along a picnic to escape the confines of the city and get whisked away by this rock-the-boat production.
You can buy tickets to The Tempest and find out more on the Melbourne Shakespeare Company website.
