Time Out says

For the fifth year, Melbourne Festival will open with Tanderrum: a Welcome to Country and ceremony performed by members of the five clans of the Kulin Nation (the five language groups who are the traditional owners of the Port Phillip region). This time, the ceremony will pay tribute to the murrup (spirit) of William Barak, a leader, spokesperson and warrior for Wurundjeri Country.
