Jamaican performance artist Amarantha is bringing her one-woman performance Oshun to La Mama HQ to mark the end of Black History Month, a pertinent time to remember and celebrate the people of the African diaspora.
Oshun promises to be a vibrant performance incorporating dance, live drumming and soul songs to tell a story that draws inspiration from Afro-Caribbean spiritual folklore, which includes a pantheon of gods called Orishas.
Amarantha will share her rich ancestral heritage via this theatrical trip to the mythical realm of Orishas, where the titular character of Oshun must prove her prowess as the goddess of love. In the face of doubt, will she prove to be a goddess or a hot mess?
Under direction from Jamie Wilson and accompanied by live drumming from Adrian Hearn, Amarantha Robinson will perform her own writing in this spiritual show.
Oshun will play at La Mama HQ from February 28 until March 3. Find out more or get your tickets at the website.
