There’s a brand new made-in-Melbourne musical making its world premiere at the Comedy Theatre this June, but it’s not the straight-laced fairytale you might expect. Instead, this multi-million dollar production twists the story of Cinderella in ways you’ve never seen before.

Midnight: The Cinderella Musical is a modern Broadway-style show with all the trappings – a live orchestra, an original score by John Foreman and Anthony Costanzo, and an impressive cast. Much-loved multi-platinum singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke has also lent her talents to Midnight, penning a special song for the show called ‘Without You’.

Rising star and Melbourne local Brianna Bishop is donning the glass slippers to play Ella, a feisty and funny young heroine who doesn’t need or even want a so-called ‘Prince Charming’. Bishop joins the cast fresh off the back of playing Amber Von Tussle in the national tour of Hairspray.

Where most Cinderella stories ask whether Prince Charming will choose Cinderella, this one explores whether the prince can prove his worth to Ella.

The rest of the star-studded cast reads like a who’s who of the Aussie music theatre scene, including Lucy Durack (Wicked), Shane Jacobson (Hairspray), Verity Hunt-Ballard (Mary Poppins), Thomas McGuane (Frozen) and Matt Lee (Mary Poppins/Frozen).

Midnight will play at the Comedy Theatre for a strictly limited season from June 23 until July 23.

Learn more about the show and get your ticket from $49.50 (plus booking fee) here.
