Time Out says

What do you get when you combine a multi-award-winning playwright, a two-time Tony nominee and the producer behind Fleabag and Baby Reindeer? A highlight of the 2025 Midsumma Festival line-up playing at Arts Centre Melbourne for a swift three-week run, that’s what.

Star Latinx British-Brazilian-Australian playwright Marcelo Dos Santos wrote Feeling Afraid as if Something Terrible is Going to Happen (phew, what a name!) to be performed by Samuel Barnett, a double Tony and Olivier nominee. With Francesca Moody, the London-based producer behind the aforementioned hits onboard, it’s easy to see why there’s so much hype surrounding this play.

The production is all about a self-described “permanently single, professionally neurotic” stand-up who finally meets Mr Right, only to do everything wrong. This delightfully dark 70-minute monologue disguised as a stand-up set takes you on a journey through self-awareness and self-sabotage – a path that’ll feel familiar to anyone who’s experienced the twisted landscape that is Millennial dating.

The show’s Midsumma season will mark the first time it has been presented outside the United Kingdom, after being hailed the breakout success of the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Catch it here first before it heads to Sydney for Mardi Gras and Adelaide as part of Adelaide Festival.

Tickets range in price from $34-59 and you can grab yours here.
