Time Out says

Reimagined for the modern world, triple Olivier Award-winning stage show Emilia is set to come down under for the first time ever.

Inspired by 17th century poet and revolutionist Emilia Bassano, the show is written by British playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and features a team only made up of women and non-binary creatives. We’ll see Manali Datar (Harry Potter And The Cursed Child), Cessalee Stovall and Lisa Maza (Blue Heelers, Wentworth) each taking on the role of Emilia, a writer, lover, mother, and muse, whose voice is misunderstood and story unheard. And though its set in 1609, the story resonates true as ever – given the recent #MeToo movement and Roe vs Wade.

“We are beside ourselves at Arts Centre Melbourne to be premiering the West End hit and triple Olivier Award-winning rollicking play Emilia," says Edwina Lunn, director of programming at Arts Centre Melbourne.

"Emilia is elevated to the epitome of a feminist wrecking ball – a commanding voice and a modern hero for our times. She is every one of us. I am Emilia. We are all Emilia. Brace yourselves Melbourne – we know you are ready for the fire and fury, the funnies and the post-show foyer fisticuffs.”

The show will run at Arts Centre Melbourne from November 10 to November 27. Tickets are on sale now via the Arts Centre Melbourne website.
