The biennial Next Wave Festival is known for its genre-smashing, experimental and frequently participatory performance works, but Crunch Time takes the cake. Well, it takes whatever it is the audience decides.
Created by the “transmedia performance collective” Counterpilot, the performance is a democratic dinner party, where the audience is invited to use devices to vote on what ingredients will be used in an elaborate meal. The audience will watch a chef prepare the meal via live feed from a nearby kitchen.
If you’re lucky, there’ll be a great meal at the end to enjoy. But the results could be disastrous when the majority rules. That’s democracy for you.
