Picture this: the sun’s shining and you’re with your friends. One arm is carrying your surfboard as you run towards the water. You look up, and see perfect rolling waves, the people riding them have wide grins and are laughing. You paddle onto a wave, jump up, and surf, and for a moment it’s just you, the board and the wave, and you think to yourself, “This is as good as it gets.”

No, this isn’t surf-lovers’ heaven, though it’s pretty damn close.

Australia’s first landlocked surf park, Urbnsurf, provides superb, ocean-like waves in a fun, authentic, safe and controlled environment. And the best bit is the parks cater to all abilities, so it’s ideal if you’re a beginner; you don’t feel like driving to the coast; or the swell at the beach is unsafe.

Have you always wanted to give surfing a crack but are not sure how or where to start even? You can learn to surf this summer at Urbnsurf Melbourne in Tullamarine with a surf coach. The one-hour and 45-minute Learn to Surf Beginner lesson includes a soft board and wetsuit hire, a 30-minute briefing, land practice and warm up, one-hour surfing the Bays under the guidance of an expert coach, plus 15 minutes to warm down and recap.

You can also choose to sign up to a five-week Learn to Surf program which happens at the same time each week with the same group and coach, that’ll have you channelling Blue Crush in no time.
