Did you know there’s a circus school tucked away just back from Prahran’s busy Chapel Street precinct? The National Institute of Circus Arts casts a tall figure at 39-59 Green Street, thanks to the towering ceiling that leaves ample space for aerial endeavours.
If you’re thinking this place is full of dedicated athletes training for gymnastic feats, you’d be absolutely right. But on the other hand, NICA runs a whole bunch of much more approachable programs for kids, teens and adventurous adults. It’s a creative way to improve fitness, strength, coordination and flexibility for us regular folks. Here’s a breakdown of the ways you or your kid can get a taste of the world of circus at NICA.
Holiday programs
Looking for a fun and dynamic way to keep the kids and teenagers entertained during the school holidays? NICA’s school holiday program could be just the thing. With morning only, full day or full week options available, they can learn a little or a lot. The next holiday program is coming up from January 9 to 10.
Come and try circus days
Sometimes the best way to test the circus waters is to dip your toe in. That’s why NICA holds “come and try” sessions for kids, teens and adults before the start of each term of classes. These hour-long sessions will cost you $25 and they come with no strings attached. The next scheduled session is on January 20.
Circus classes
For those ready to take the plunge (into the foam pit), NICA’s regular classes run in terms throughout the year. Take advantage of the best circus training facilities in Australia and choose a style that suits you. Whether you’ve always wanted to be able to do a handstand or you’re keen to learn trampolining, tumbling or tissu silks, there’s a class for you.
Parties
NICA’s circus parties help you celebrate your special occasion with a fun, safe and inclusive circus workshop. These parties aren’t just for kids either – NICA’s Prahran location means these parties are the perfect starting point for grownup birthday parties or hens.
