This southside stalwart is a goldmine for hip-hoppers about town, with a vast collection of both local and international vinyl up for grabs. After opening in 1995, Obese gained such traction in the underground hip-hop scene that it eventually spawned its own record label. Now headed up by Melbourne rapper Pegz, the label put Aussie hiphop on the map with the success of the Hilltop Hoods’ seminal 2003 release, The Calling, and now houses the likes of Muph & Plutonic, Mantra and Illy.
After 15 years on Prahran's Izett Street, the store has moved to bigger digs on nearby Commercial Road, where they now also stock hip-hop apparel by brands including Burn Crew, Scribe, Boywolf, LRG and more.
