Time Out says

Once a quiet back alley located south of Little Collins Street between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets, Howey Place was given a new lease on life in 1896 when Edward William Cole – the developer of Cole's Book Arcade – spruced it up with a glass roof and wrought iron canopy.

These days, it's a popular hub for shoppers, with a stylish selection of glass-fronted boutiques lining the laneway. It's also a hotspot for lovers of historic architecture, who come to admire the surrounding art deco buildings, soaring glass ceilings and terrazzo marble pavements.
