Head out west to Braybrook and visit Andy and Tram Tran’s sprawling West of Kin, the sister venue to Kin on Chapel Street. The large backyard space welcomes local families (pets included) and we like how the eatery supporting local business by pouring West City Footscray Ale.
Operating as an all-day eatery, the Asian fusion menu by consulting chef Sam Pinion (most recently of The Rose Upstairs in Fitzroy) gets points for Instagram-friendly presentation. The breakfast, brunch and lunch section offers fun options like the buttermilk pancakes with fairy floss, and a more substantial bibimbap rice bowl or pulled pork belly burger for later on in the day.
Dinner options are short and sweet, continuing Asian theme with options including a lamb taco with kimchi and XO sauce, and Son-in-Law eggs with a kimchi mayo sauce.
