The best regional fine diners in Victoria

  • European
  • Daylesford
  • price 4 of 4

Lake House sits pretty in its grand, sunlit Cape Cod-style structure overlooking its very own lake. It’s the height of luxury in Daylesford’s spa country by husband and wife tour de force Allan and Alla Wolf-Tasker, and offers on-site accommodation plus a beautiful restaurant. Like many fine diners it offers a seasonal degustation menu, with most of the produce sourced locally or from its very own Dairy Flat Farm.

  • Birregurra
  • price 3 of 4

Dining at Brae is more a marathon than a sprint. It’s a relaxed degustation that paces itself throughout the day so you can relax and graze to your heart’s content. The farmhouse restaurant by Dan Hunter is set on the sloping paddocks of Birregurra and prides itself on using produce sourced from Brae Farm’s own organic harvest, local farms and ethical, sustainable producers. If you don’t want to drive home, book a spot overnight at one of Brae’s six luxe guest suites.

  • Modern Australian
  • Beechworth
  • price 3 of 4

Provenance brings pomp and splendour to Beechworth in its residence at the former Bank of Australasia. Its multi-course menu is lovingly crafted by chef and co-owner Michael Ryan and is a reflection of his extensive travels throughout Japan, perfected by his Japanese-inspired techniques and flavours. Expect the likes of oyster with cherry blossom dressing or grilled beef with smoked miso butter.

  • Beaconsfield
  • price 3 of 4

Brothers Blayne and Chayse lost their previous venue to a fire not long ago, but they are back better than ever with the third iteration of O.My. So dedicated are they to seasonality that every fruit and vegetable served up on your plate depends on what they can source from their own farm. Expect fresh flavours with no gimmicks.

  • Coldstream
  • price 3 of 4

Down in Victoria's oldest wine region you'll find family-owned estate, cellar door and restaurant Oakridge, which dishes up some of the state’s best eats. There's a reason it was our favourite restaurant in 2019. The four-course lunch menu is well-priced at $95 per head, and an additional beverage package can be added on showcasing the estate's wines.

  • Merricks
  • price 3 of 4

Pt Leo Estate is a behemoth that sits at the edge of the Mornington Peninsula. The $50 million sculpture park totes a large KAWS design and winery with massive sea views. Head to Laura, its resident fine diner and choose from a four- or eight-course menu with additional beverage pairings (including Pt Leo Estate's very own drops) curated by head sommelier Andrew Murch. Or choose from its extensive and impressive list yourself.

Head to one of Melbourne's best bars afterwards
