Sacred Alley is no austere temple to black gold, but rather a modern café with large blue booths and white wooden chairs – it’s all about comfort in both seating and coffee. Dukes Coffee Roasters supply the beans for white and single origin coffees. For black coffee, they use Maker Fine Coffee beans. If you can get it, have the Maven seasonal blend. It’s a Colombian bean with a grape and cherry aroma, medium body and great texture. The staff are cheery, even during rush hour. There’s no BYO reusable cup discount, but Sacred Alley is pretty affordable for Melbourne coffee – $3.80 for a small, $3.50 for a batch brew and $4.50 for a cold brew. And if the housemade beef pie is available, don’t think twice, it’s more than alright.
