Lucky Penny is the brainchild of Justin Re and Matt Lanigan, who have partnered up with Vanessa Nitsos and Jason Chan (owners of Lady Bower Kitchen café in Reservoir). You can scorn your diet or be as health-conscious as you like: start the day with champagne breakfast or waffles with salted chocolate and ice-cream, or be virtuous and opt for a smoothie bowl or quinoa salad. At lunch, try meatballs in flatbread or a fresh garden salad with all the trimmings – feta, mushrooms, lentils and rosemary, for example. There's also a dinner menu on Friday and Saturday nights.
The winter menu has been inspired by Scandinavian-style feasts, bringing the food of the Vikings to the diners of Melbourne. Perfect for a cold night, the 'hunter’s stews’ are hearty and wholesome – try beef with roast potatoes, mushrooms and carrot, or the farmhouse chicken with roast celeriac and kale chips. Get lucky.
