When the slogan is "come out of your shell", you know you're in for a fun (and memorable) dining experience. Introducing Kalye Marinas Café and Seafood Hub – Geelong's very first seafood boil restaurant.
Located on trendy Pakington Street, it specialises in hearty, messy boils that are most popular in America – we're talking about the ones where you choose the seafood (normally crabs, octopus, clams or mussels), flavouring (cajun is always a winner), add-ons (like corn or potatos) and the sides (it could be rice, bread or roti). The mouthwatering contents are then poured on the table in front of you, and then it's time to dig in with your hands.
But Kalye Marinas Café and Seafood Hub also doubles as a Filipino restaurant, and everyone is encouraged to adopt the 'boodle fight-style' of dining that originated in the Philippines. This means grabbing and eating as much food as you can before others, resulting in a frenzied but hilarious and fun experience. Remember to bib up!
While the seafood boil is the star of this menu, there's plenty of other traditional Filipino fare to enjoy, including rice-based dishes like lechon sisiglog (roast pork with a fried egg, tofu and pickled veggies) and halo halo (a delicious dessert comprising crushed ice with ube ice cream and various toppings).
Now if that's not enough to entice you to jump in your car and hit the Princes Freeway, we don't know what is.
