At Chinatown ramen spot Fukuryu Ramen, it's all about the efficiency. Part of an Indonesian restaurant group that’s also responsible for the popular Ikkousha ramen restaurants in Japan and South East Asia, Fukuryu has service down to a tee. Diners make their order as soon as they walk through the door, and steaming bowls of tonkotsu ramen arrive in under 20 minutes, long enough to find a seat.
The menu runs the gamut of traditional ramen (think miso, shoyu, and shio soup bases), but there are also a list of more modern versions inspired by popular ramen dishes in Japan. There’s the chicken tonkotsu ramen, vegetarian miso ramen (with vegan broth) and an unusual but hot weather-friendly chilled seafood noodle salad with yuzu jelly.
Don’t feel like ramen? There are rice bowls and snack-sized side dishes that will go down a treat with a few beers like the okonomiyaki balls, spicy Red Dragon chicken wings, and soft shell crab buns. Save space for dessert – the matcha soft serve give the Macca’s classic a run for their money.
