When one of the most famous burger brands in the world set up shop in Southbank – an area not exactly brimming with casual eating options (hello, Rockpool) – Melbourne's burger lovers rejoiced. Five Guys had finally entered the building.
Hailing from the D.C. area in the U.S., Five Guys is so loved by Americans that it was voted "Number 1 Burger" by Washingtonian Magazine for seven years. Even former U.S. president Barack Obama is a reported fan.
Well, if the rampant riverside community of seagulls have always deterred you from visiting the Southbank outlet, we've got delicious news for you. You've now got a second Five Guys to visit in Melbourne! The burger geniuses have just opened a new location at QV, slinging their signature burgers, fresh-cut fries and crazy good thickshakes from the beating heart of the CBD.
But what is it exactly that makes these burgers so good? Well, there's a science behind the unique recipe, of course. The meat is a perfected 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio. Patties are hand-made seven days a week on-site. And the bread, which is Five Guys' only proprietary item, is baked fresh five days a week and never frozen.
And for the fries? Potatoes are cut fresh daily, soaked to remove the starch and double-fried in pure, no-cholesterol peanut oil to create the firm exterior and fluffy ‘mashed-potato’ interior that Five Guys are known for.
Five Guys offers guests 250,000 burger variations and an option to order over 100 varieties of milkshakes. From the classic cheeseburger to unique combinations like peanut butter and bacon shakes, the options are limitless.
Our only advice? Bring a big appetite!
