Melbourne is a city that loves its dumplings, and we've got plenty of spots around town to get our fix. But nothing tastes quite as delicious as a free food promo! So in honour of National Dumpling Day (yes, that's a thing) on Thursday, September 26, Aussie dumpling brand Mr Chen's has decided to dole their parcels of joy out – totally on the house.

2,000 hot and tasty dumplings will be up for grabs at Queensbridge Square in Southbank from 10am to 4pm, featuring some of the brand's yummiest flavours like prawn hargow, soup dumplings and honey soy chicken dumplings. And of course, your dumpling plate isn't complete without the dipping accoutrements (soy, sriracha or special dumpling sauce), so lick your lips and take your pick!

In the lead-up to the fun giveaway, Mr Chen's commissioned a cute little research study about Aussie dumpling habits. An estimated 5 million Aussie adults eat dumplings every week! It was also revealed that 76 per cent of survey respondents consume almost six dumplings per serve, while 22 per cent consume 11 or more. (For the record, this writer definitely belongs to the latter category.)

Mr Chen’s Co-CEO Lucy Chen said, “We are so proud of our rich family heritage, serving delicious at-home dumplings for over 40 years. From Soup Dumplings to Honey Soy Chicken Dumplings, we love bringing authentic Asian flavours to Aussie households across the country.

“This National Dumpling Day however, we’re delivering our dumplings to the heart of Melbourne, asking the community to join us and celebrate with free damn good dumplings. With the help of Aunty Chen, our roaming yum cha trolley Aunty, all you need to do is simply spot her in front of the red steps at Queensbridge Square, and enjoy!”
