How lucky are we? Not only has Windsor just been voted the tenth coolest neighbourhood in the world, but in other exciting news, a recent study has revealed the foodie capital of Australia to be – drum roll, please – Melbourne. Sorry, Sydney! Furthermore, the highest concentration of top-rated restaurants in the nation can be found in Melbourne’s very own CBD.

But perhaps you’re wondering how the study revealed this result? It’s simple. Olive oil producer Morella Grove searched each Aussie suburb on TripAdvisor and counted the number of restaurants with 4.5-star reviews or higher. A jaw-dropping 508 highly rated restaurants are situated in Melbourne as a whole, while the CBD itself boasts 501.

Sydney’s CBD followed closely, with 256 eateries garnering rave reviews. And the foodie fun doesn’t stop when you leave the city centres. According to the study, Richmond takes the lead among non–CBD suburbs, featuring 83 highly rated spots. It’s home to the winner of our 2023 Best Wine Bar award, Clover, as well as other great restaurants and bars like New Quarter, Lene, the recently re-opened Anchovy, Waygood and gig institution Corner Hotel. It’s no secret that Fitzroy and St Kilda are both hot spots for dining out, and the study backs those great reps up with 77 and 60 of the suburbs' venues holding a 4.5-star rating or higher, respectively. Brunswick, Carlton, Hawthorn, Preston, Footscray and South Yarra also got a mention.

We couldn't be prouder, Melbs! For more key insights from the study, visit Morella Grove's website.
