If you didn't need another excuse to drink cocktails, now you do. Chinatown bar Bar Clara is planting a tree every time a cocktail is purchased from February onwards.
The bar partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects, an organisation which has successfully planted over 480 million trees across 8 countries. Eden specifically employs local communities to do so, in an attempt to break the poverty cycle that leads to the unsustainable destruction of forests in the first place.
This isn't Bar Clara's first environmental rodeo either, with the team already practising a number of sustainability initiatives including the removal of plastic straws and single-use coasters to reduce waste, reducing packaging and food miles by in-house prep, batching pre-chilled cocktails to reduce the energy cost of ice production, and upcycling by-products into food and garnishes. That hummus starter? It's made with chickpeas left over from aquafaba.
The venue's third birthday is taking place on February 11 too and it invites everyone to come in for carbon-positive cocktails.
Bar Clara is open from Wednesday to Saturday, 5pm to midnight, and is located on 87 Little Bourke St, Melbourne.
