Wilsons Promontory is one of the best national parks in Victoria to really experience the beauty of our natural surrounds. It has plenty of walking trails, idyllic swimming spots and hikes with great views. Heck, the beloved Squeaky Beach was even crowned as the best beach in the whole of Australia earlier this year. But one of the best parts of visiting Wilsons Prom is the chance to see adorable Aussie wildlife, as it's pretty common that you'll see a wombat or kangaroo in its natural habitat. Now, the popular Prom Wildlife Walk is getting an upgrade, so even more people will get the chance to see native creatures when they visit.
The trail is a go-to spot to see wildlife, as it winds through open grassland that hosts kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and emus. As part of the huge multi-million-dollar Wilsons Prom Revitalisation project, the 2.3-kilometre wildlife walk will gain a better trail surface, parking and signage, with the new surface to improve the trail's accessibility for people with mobility issues. The signage will help visitors to better understand the wildlife they're encountering by providing information about each animal. It's a great addition, since the area is often frequented by tourists who may not be familiar with our local cute critters.
The trail will be closed to visitors while the upgrade works are being completed, but it will reopen around early December. So whether you're keen to see wild animals in their natural habitat or you're just looking for another reason to visit the picturesque Prom, you'll be able to walk the trail later this year.
