Ministry of Crab is an award-winning seafood restaurant from Sri Lanka, a consecutive A-lister on the almighty Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, and an unmissable experience for seafood lovers. With permanent locations in Bangkok, Mumbai, Shanghai, Chengdu and the Maldives, you'd typically have to book exxy flights to make a reservation at this red-hot shellfish joint.
But not this year. After a smash-hit residency in Melbourne in 2022, we’ve just heard word the Ministry is scuttling back to our shores for a pop-up at Crown’s luxe Evergreen space from March 28 to April 27. So if you missed out on all the fun last time, you better book in, bib up and nab a table!
Sustainably sourced northern Australian mud crabs are renowned for their sweet, juicy flesh, and they'll be flown in live and prepared in a range of sauced-up flavour bombs. Led by the acclaimed chef and TV personality Dharshan Munidasa, who has both Sri Lankan and Japanese heritage and is a master in the art of crab and prawn preparation, the indulgent five-course set menu covers the whole Ministry gamut: pepper crab, fiery garlic chilli crab, a chef's tasting platter, refreshing crab avocado salad and coconut creme brûlée for dessert – all prepared in the restaurant's world-famous signature style, of course.
The expanded menu will also feature Mooloolaba king prawns and fresh Pacific oysters with aged soy sauce and bloody shiraz gin caviar, marrying Asian flavours with fresh Aussie seafood in the most succulent (and addictive) of ways. You can get your hands as dirty as you like (hot tip: we reckon it tastes better that way), though cutlery and napkins will also be provided.
Ministry of Crab will be located in the exclusive Evergreen event space at Crown Towers and will be open for dinner from Wednesdays to Saturdays with lunch on Sundays. The five-course set menu is $155 a head, with wine pairings available for an additional cost. Snap up a booking here.
