News that probably won’t excite Melburnians: a brand new Marriott Hotel is opening up in the Docklands.
News that definitely will excite Melburnians: this new Marriott Hotel is going to be home to a 15th-floor infinity-edge pool and it will be open to the public.
The brand-new Marriott Hotel will be hitting the waterfront precinct in mid-June this year, boasting its own bar and dining precinct and the kind of five-star luxury that you would expect from a high-end hotel chain like Marriott. Expect an all-day restaurant, laneway café, lobby bar and a rooftop bar that catches the sunset each night and dishes up the likes of Moreton Bay bug brioche rolls and Great Ocean Road duck jaffles.
The $250 million hotel will feature 189 rooms and 106 permanent resident apartments, which they’re claiming will be like New York's Fifth Avenue style of living (translation: apartment sizes are large, there’s plenty of building amenities and the design is pretty schmick). It will be located pretty centrally too, above the District Docklands on Waterfront Way.
Probably the coolest part of this announcement is the building itself. Designed by DKO Architecture, the hotel will comprise of two interlinked towers that intersect with a level of vertical greenery that will provide some privacy between the two towers. Each petal-shaped tower will be 17 floors tall, and not-so-subtly modelled after Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands hotel and its incredible rooftop infinity pool.
Now, the pool. Located on the 15th floor, this 28-metre infinity-edge swimming pool will boast 200-degree views over the city. Like the Marina Bay Sands pool, it will be open to hotel guests, residents and us regular folk who are seeking a leisurely CBD swim, 15 floors up.
