After a one-year hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions, the seventh annual Out on the Weekend festival is returning to Melbourne's inner-west. On December 11, you can head to the Seaworks in Williamstown for a line-up of artists that will have roots, Americana and country music fans salivating.
Long-time OOTW friends including Wagons and Lost Ragas are coming back, and Mick Thomas is appearing for the first time with this band The Roving Commission. Liz Stinger, who recently released her sixth album, will also be performing.
Much-loved Melbourne outfits The Warner Brothers and Sherry Rich and the Grievous Angels will make a rare appearance, as well as acclaimed singer-songwriter Steve Hoy. These artists are steeped in the propagation of Melbourne as a roots music epicentre, so you're sure to get a little taste of history.
Heaps of young up-and-comers and local legends will also be taking the stage, including Brooke Russell, Ben Mastwyk, Luke Sinclair, Katie Bates, Lachlan Bryan and Matt Joe Goe and Georgia State Line.
Each year, there is a special tribute feature presentation that pays homage to artists who have contributed to the popularity and understanding of a genre. This year, it is The Girl from Chickasaw County, an album by '60s Southern gothic singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry.
To top it all off, there will be heaps of local beers, cocktails and food options to keep your whistle wet and your belly full during the festival.
Head to the Out on the Weekend website to browse the full line-up and to purchase ticket.s
