As international artists embark on global tours after a slow couple of years on the road thanks to that pesky pandemic, Australia is excitedly preparing for an influx of superstar musicians performing shows on our shores. Old school disco aficionados will be thrilled to hear that one of the biggest names in the industry, Nile Rodgers, is setting sail for a run of shows throughout Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
Melburnians should mark their calendars for Saturday, October 21, when Rodgers will take the stage with his band Chic at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl as part of the Melbourne Jazz Festival. He'll perform the greatest hits from his illustrious career and be joined by another music legend, Chaka Khan, for the disco diva's only Australian performance. Rodgers has had an incredible journey through the industry with multiple Grammy Awards to his name, spots in both the Rock & Roll and Songwriters Hall of Fame and songwriter, composer, producer, arranger and guitarist credits on some of the biggest tracks over the past 50 years. If you’ve ever heard songs like Diana Ross’ ‘I’m Coming Out’ or Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ you can thank Rodgers for playing a part in bringing those sounds to the airwaves.
In addition to the Melbourne show, Rodgers and Chic will be performing at the Civic Theatre in Auckland (October 18), the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane (October 20), the Enmore Theatre in Sydney (October 25), Fremantle Prison (October 27) and the Harvest Rock Festival in Adelaide (October 28).
