Unlike many of the city’s major hotels, Treasury on Collins hides in plain sight. It’s not a huge skyscraper, and it doesn’t have any flashy signs. In fact, you’ve probably walked past it on the corner of Queen and Collins streets and not even given it a second glance. But don’t be fooled by the lack of self-promotion, because this boutique hotel is a gorgeous place to stay in Melbourne.
It's an apartment hotel, so you'll have a lot more space than in a normal hotel. Apartments range from the 40-square-metre Plaza queen suite all the way up to the 85-square-metre Heritage two-bedroom apartment. All of the suites have kitchenettes and living areas, and they also include washing machines and dryers, making them ideal for longer stays.
The building itself dates back to 1876 and was originally a bank building. The soaring ceiling and ornate building elements in the reception and Bank restaurant and bar downstairs hint at its former life.
Had a long day shopping or running around Melbourne? Treasury on Collins offers a 'wine down' daily from 4-6pm in the lounge, where guests can have a free glass of wine and snacks. Tea, coffee and snacks are available all day until 7pm, and the breakfast buffet is included. Yes, that means unlimited bacon and chocolate croissants (plus things like cereal, toast, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes).
All the suites have at least one flat-screen TV (many have two, one in the bedroom and one in the living room), and Netflix is included, so you won't need to pay for in-room movies. Beds are ultra-comfortable, and Molton Brown toiletries are included.
