A little history lesson, folks. The historic Werribee Park Mansion was once part of St Joseph’s Seminary. The mansion itself dates back to 1870 and is surrounded by ten acres of formal European gardens. Nowadays, the heritage rooms have been transformed into boutique accommodation a mere 30 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD.
The rooms were a retreat for students of the seminary back then, and it’s good to know that the retreat tradition lives on with the Lancemore Spa at Werribee Park Mansion. Let’s just say there aren’t many day spas in the country that can boast a history that’s steeped in reflection and contemplation like this place can.
The spa itself offers a variety of facials, body treatments and massages, along with manicures and pedicures. Opt for a visit to the private Hammam ($40 for 30 minutes), which also comes with a DIY scrub and mud application. Another highlight is the deep-tissue massage, the personally tailored botanical facial and an orange-scented hot oil head massage.
Spa and hotel guests also have access to the serene, blue-tiled swimming pool, complete with jets and comfortable loungers along the edges. The space is warm and calming, with a beautiful scent in the air and calming music piped throughout. It’s one of the many reasons why the Lancemore Spa made it onto our list of Melbourne’s best spas.
Lancemore Spa is undoubtedly a classic hotel day spa experience. Plus – driving into the grounds of this historic mansion and seeing the beautiful gardens is all part of the fun.
