What’s good for Madonna, Zooey Deschanel and Natalie Portman is sure as diggity worth trying for Time Out Melbourne, and so it is that we find ourselves prancing off to a Barre Body class.
Barre work is harder than it looks, of course. Presumably Madonna also discovered muscles she never knew she had, when first guided through leg reps at every point of the compass – all the while seeing her own face contorted back at her in the mirror, no doubt.
It makes for fantastic strength training, although the groans, splutters and laughs ricocheting around the studio as butter-wouldn’t-melt instructor Emma Seibold puts us through our paces mean we’re definitely going to feel the pain tomorrow. Barre Body combines yoga, pilates, light weights and barre work all rolled into one. For a sneak preview yourself, check out the video Emma made just for us.
Another studio is planned in inner-Melbourne later this year. For now, take your choice of Barre Body, Barre Moves, Barre Core, Detox Flow and Dynamic Vinyasa classes at Endota Spa.
New students pay $50 for two weeks of unlimited classes. Individual barre classes are $25, yoga $20, while you can get 10 passes for $200, valid for three months.
