After rising to fame as a semi-finalist on America's Got Talent (if you haven't seen the video of their rave-worthy performance that cracked tough nut Simon Cowell into a standing ovation, do so here), Argentinian sensation Malevo is now drumming their way to Melbourne.
This all-male South American percussion group has shared the stage with Puerto Rican popstar Ricky Martin and Cirque du Soleil, and has performed worldwide, including in Las Vegas, New York, Dubai, Cairo and Montreal. And now, the leather-laden troupe is making their way to Australia for the first time.
Between January 23–28, 2024, Malevo will take over Art Centre Melbourne's State Theatre for a week's worth of exhilarating performances. Malevo offers an explosive modern take on the Argentinian folk dance, Malambo, a percussive style of traditional dance passed down through the generations.
Created by director and choreographer Matías Jaime, the troupe combines elements of flamenco, zapateados (stomping) with drums and percussion from hand-held boleadoras (a tool made from leather and stone traditionally used for hunting).
Malevo is on at the State Theatre between January 23-28, 2024, at the State Theatre. Tickets start from $89.90 and are now on sale via the Arts Centre Melbourne website here.
