Defence lawyers Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, who rose to prominence and became the subject of many Tumblr fan blogs after everyone and their nans binge-watched Making a Murderer, are set to tour Australia in November. Coming to Melbourne on November 8, the event is dubbed 'A Conversation on Making a Murderer with Attorneys Dean Strang and Jerry Buting', will see the lawyers discuss the Steven Avery case and its broader implications, as well as the fundamental failures of the criminal justice system.
The event comes off the back of talks Buting and Strang has been touring around the USA titled 'A Conversation on Justice' where they discuss the Avery trial and the broader American justice system at length the way they can't do "when the media... only have two minutes on the nightly news". No doubt the recent popularity of the reality crime genre, made famous by Serial, Making a Murderer and The Jinx, will make this tour a sell-out event. So if you've ever wanted to ask the law world's biggest celebrities the ins and outs of the Avery case, or what they think of the near-disturbing fandom on Tumblr, tickets go on sale at 10am Tuesday April 19.
