Praise Mormon Jesus: tickets to the biggest musical to hit Melbourne in a long time have just become way more affordable.

The Book of Mormon has announced a $40 lottery ticket policy. Same-day ticket lotteries are common for blockbuster shows in Broadway and on the West End, and if you've ever queued up to score last-minute theatre tickets in New York or London, you'll know they're super popular.

So here's the deal: to nab $40 tickets, turn up to the Princess Theatre box office two and a half hours prior to that night's performance. Provide your name and the number of tickets you want (the maximum is two), then stick around and wait for names to be drawn at random two hours before the curtain opens.

Sure, relying on the lottery to see Mormon is a risky move (and involves hanging around hours before the show) – but given that tickets normally start at upwards of $80, it's a damn good deal if you're successful.

Our tip? Grab your mates, enter the lottery together and increase your chances of winning. If you do win the lottery, go out and treat yourself to a pre-show dinner – you deserve it.

Not sure what the hype is all about? Here's everything you need to know about The Book of Mormon, one of the biggest musicals of all time.
