If you've listened to Triple J, watched the ARIAs or just have a vague grasp of the musical landscape of Australia over the past few years, there's no doubt you would be familiar with Chet Faker. The bearded Melburnian singer-songwriter won a legion of fans following the release of his debut album, Built On Glass, alongside extensive national tours and collaborations with the likes of Flume and Marcus Marr. What you may not be so familiar with is the artist's real name – Nick Murphy. But soon you will be, because the artist formerly known as Chet Faker, is reverting back to using the name he was born with. Murphy told fans this morning via a Facebook announcement about the switch up.

Originally Murphy adopted the pseudonym Chet Faker – a play on jazz trumpeter and inspiration, Chet Baker – because there was already recording artist named "Nick Murphy". Talking to Time Out back in early 2014 he said: “I don’t think not using my name makes it any less personal. If anything, it’s a joke on that.” Following the release of his debut album, Murphy toured both Australia and North America, founded his own record label and recently released a disco-tinged EP with producer Marcus Marr. What direction this evolution will take now is still a bit of a mystery – but we're on board and ready to hear some new material from Chet Faker Nick Murphy.
