South Melbourne's tiny Parisian patisserie is now baking baguettes

It's an open secret that a tiny French bakery in South Melbourne Market makes some of the best croissants, danishes and French cakes on the south side of the river. But Agathé Patisserie has also added classic French breads to their usual line-up of pastries. The South Melbourne Market shop is now pumping out crusty baguettes, ficelles (like a baguette but longer and skinnier), and chocolate chip-studded milk bread baguettes that we think is made for fancy bread and butter puddings this winter.

Parisian and pastry chef Agathé Kerr expanded her tiny market bakery earlier this year and has been experimenting with her baked goods. Her limited edition pastries like the bright green pandan and café au lait croissants sell out like hot cakes, so it's no surprise that Kerr has announced that she will be putting new spins to the classic baguette too.

Try the sweet honey and sesame baguette, cheesy parmesan and cheddar ficelle, and the garlic and herb baguette that we have a feeling will beat the frozen garlic bread you've had in your freezer for months.

Prefer the sweet stuff? Here are Melbourne's 14 best patisseries, ranked.
