Riding in cars with boys girls. SheSafe Taxi is Melbourne's first female- (and child-) only ride sharing service, addressing and acknowledging the discomfort or danger a woman can face when sharing a car with a male driver, particularly at night.
The concept came to founder and director Emma Buchanan when she conducted extensive research into the "staggering" number of complaints from women against male drivers. Through this initiative, she intends to give total peace of mind to women and children travelling alone in a taxi, with all drivers undergoing a police check and 'Working with Children' certificate.
Just like Uber, the super popular and ever-controversial ride-sharing app, women will book and track rides using an app. And like Uber, SheSafe allows women to work for themselves, gain a supplementary income and choose their own hours.
It gets better: the lovely folk at SheSafe will donate a percentage of every fare to support women and children in need.
