We all have a favourite childhood computer game – there was Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog, PacMan, all the way to that 90s classic Crash Bandicoot (which, coincidentally, is getting a reboot soon). It seems like the team at ACMI are also fans of the 8-bit classics, because they're celebrating the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics by hosting a party completely dedicated to retro sports and Olympics-themed games. ACMI's Retrolympiad is the 8-bit game fans' dream event – taking off on July 23, punters can satisfy their nostalgia for classic video games, and face off fellow gamers like it's 1988.
Put your game face on compete in a few rounds of Epyx’s California Games, Konami’s Track and Field, Nintendo's Mike Tyson's Punch Out, or some 8-bit arcade classics. There will be a kick-ass 80s-inspired DJs set by the Midnight Juggernauts and themed food and drink. Think you did well against your fellow gamers? Stick around for the medal ceremony where the reigning pixel pusher will be crowned.
Better start practicing that cheat code like it's nobody's business. And remember, it's: up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right-B-A-start!
