The North Melbourne Hotel on Victoria Street looks a little like someone went nuts at a Franco Cozzo and a European outdoor furniture shop (there are quite a few cherubs and ornate brass furnishings). At a time when the minimalist design look is dominating Melbourne's hospitality scene, the opulence might be a shock to the sense, but that shouldn't deter you from what could be a decent local.
Pub fare at the North Melbourne Hotel has a European and Mediterranean bent, with share plates and a generous small dishes section (that doubles as bar snacks). Not straying too far away from pub favourites, seasonal pub specials include a ribs night, surf and turf, and a duck and pinot evening.
Daily knock-off happy hour runs from 5-6.30 all week for cheap beverages.
