Sake comes with a side of anime at this quirky, cartoon-covered Japanese bar. Kick back on one of the ruby-hued banquettes and you'll be presented with a fan of food and drinks menus. There's a stellar selection of sakes served chilled, at room temperature or warm, each presented in a curvaceous ceramic flask with dinky little cups for sipping – not shooting – this savoury-sweet rice wine.
Japanese beers span crisp Asahi, Hitachino Red Rice Ale, and curious Coedo Beniaka (sweet potato beer), plus a handful of boutique Victorian brews. Cocktails are seriously considered, too, such as the floral, delicate Asian Alchemist of gin, lychee liqueur, sake, cucumber and coriander. If you're here for the long haul, order golden takoyaki balls studded with octopus, or Jap-Italian pizzas strewn with bacon, leek and mayonnaise. On Tuesday nights, anime fans gather for film screenings.
