The Prince of Wales Hotel is a Frankenstein’s monster of a pub. Within its walls is a boutique hotel, a casual bar, a dining room restaurant and a huge band room, but by their powers combined manage to make one of the most successful and interesting iterations of “pub” in town.
The public bar is a classic Australian pub with art deco features and a classic parma/burger/steak/schnitzel menu along with more elegant woodfired items, accompanied by a roster of drinkable brews. It’s known for a longstanding gay-friendly culture and easy-going vibe.
Upstairs, the Prince Band Room provides one of the last spots in this part of town for local, national and international acts to do their thing, and in a part of town where most people would rather be clubbing, we’re glad the Prince is keeping it real.
