Not many bars south of the river offer you more bang for your buck than Lucky Coq. Famous on Chapel Street for its lively energy and cushy leather sofas, the pizza legend has been a stalwart provider to cheap eat seekers for as long as we can remember. And now, due to roaring demand, its $5 pizzas are officially back on the menu. Just head in from noon on either a Wednesday or Thursday, and a tasty pizza is yours for pocket change.
Is this the place to go for an upscale sit-down Italian dinner? Of course not. But if it's an affordable feed you're after, plus $6 drinks at happy hour and party vibes all 'round, you can't really go wrong. Play it safe with a margherita with napoli and fior di latte or test your spice tolerance with a Calabrese topped with nippy salami. But you're not just limited to run-of-the-mill flavours here. There's a bánh mì pizza, a spicy chicken and buffalo sauce pizza, and even an Indian-inspired chaat masala pizza scattered with confit garlic. Go nuts! A duo of salads and a cocoa sugar-dusted Nutella calzone round out the feed if you’re extra hungry.
Interested in booking the place out for a hen’s night or birthday party? You can get downstairs all to yourself if you like. There's a private bar, live entertainment, dining space, arcade games and a pool table. A mic and projector are available as well, if you want to frighten upstairs with the sound of your best mate singing karaoke.
Heaving with loud music and a boisterous party crowd on weekends, Lucky Coq may not be the place you choose to spend your entire night out – but with cheap pizza, fried morsels and a fun cocktail list on hand, it's not a bad place to start.
