‘Kiki Riki’ is how Spanish roosters say ‘cockledoodledoo’ – and you can thank the guys from this new Latin American bar on Smith Street for that piece of cute information. Nicholas Welch is the brains behind Prahran’s White Oaks Saloon Bar and Dining, but this time, Welch, along with Victor Diaz and Rohit Grewal, is looking further south for inspiration. Their eatery serves dishes including tacos, arepas, empanadas, patatas bravas (potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce) and carne guisada (slow-cooked beef). It aims to serve food that is as authentic as possible (bearing in mind that some ingredients will be difficult to source).
Drinks-wise, naturally there’s rum, gin, cachaça, tequila and pisco, and the owners are hoping to source specialty mezcals. There’s also a courtyard that will be perfect for a summertime burrito (extra guacamole) and Quilmes combo. Tacos, arepas, secret doors… we’re excited.
