Hell's Kitchen has its fair share of naysayers, most of whom slate it for being a little too cool for school. But for the most part it's relaxed and unpretentious. The décor is colourful with a hint of arts-and-crafts, and the lighting is warm and mellow. Its first-floor location over a soup bar in Centre Place means it’s both brighter and easier to find than most laneway bars, and on hot summer days the large windows that comprise one wall of the bar are lowered to let in the breeze. The soundtrack varies depending on the day and the whims of the bar staff, but leans toward guitar-heavy indie. Small, relaxed and very likable, this is an excellent place to while away an idle afternoon.
